Tyson Fresh Meats Inc. team members at the Storm Lake plant are out to make Christmas bright for the elderly in area nursing homes.
Tyson Community Liaison Ron Hott said that, at the suggestion of Tyson team members, workers are raising money to buy gifts for the elderly in need who live in one of the six care centers in Buena Vista County. Those centers include Methodist Manor, Buena Vista Manor, and Spectra Health Care in Storm Lake; Newell Good Samaritan Center; Sioux Care Center in Sioux Rapids; and Pleasant View Home in Albert City.
Hott estimates countywide there are about 35 elderly without families and in need of a better Christmas. Team members will buy specific items for people in care centers who have been identified as not having anyone to brighten their holidays.
All team members are asked to join in the spirit of giving and to make a monetary contribution. The team members' goal is to collect $1 per team member for a total of $1,800. Donations will be accepted from now through 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26.
A team of volunteers will buy, wrap, and deliver the gifts. The gifts will be bought the week of Dec. 6-10. Wrapping will take place in the plant orientation classroom Sunday, Dec. 12.
Hott hopes to make the Christmas fund drive an annual event for Tyson team members.
On Sunday, Dec. 19 from 1-6 p.m. team member volunteers will deliver gifts and sing Christmas carols at each of the care centers. Team members who want to volunteer their time may contact Tyson Community Liaison Ron Hott in the Human Resources office to sign up.
There is a limit of 25 volunteers.
Any Tyson team members who wish to donate or to volunteer their time may call Hott at 749-5206.
