Tuesday, November 2, 2004

Aurelia's Curtis Parker reached a lofty goal here at the Class 1A state cross country meet while the Alta boys harriers finished a standout season with a fine performance.

Parker, a senior, took fourth overall at the Kennedy Golf Course Saturday afternoon, finishing the five-kilometer race in 17 minutes, 4 seconds.

"Curtis ran a great race," said Aurelia coach Jolene Hultgren. "He showed a great kick at the end to hold off several runners on a windy, cold day.

"One of Curtis' goals this year was to finish in the top five at state - it was an awesome run. I'm so proud of his accomplishments; he's had a great senior year."

Tim McKenna of NUH Cedar Falls won the Class 1A boys race in 16:50. He was followed by Nate Petesch of Marquette Bellevue in 16:58, Alex Eischeid of Marquette Bellevue in 16:59 and Parker. Taking fifth was Jesse Cunningham of Stewart in 17:05.
