FAYETTE - Adam Jones scored 17 points to lead four players in double figures in helping Buena Vista, ranked 21st in the nation, to a 71-56 victory over Upper Iowa in Iowa Conference action Tuesday.
Buena Vista jumped out to a 34-25 halftime lead and outscored the Peacocks 37-31 in the second half despite shooting 30 percent.
Buena Vista was 17 of 48 for 35 percent from the field. Upper Iowa was 23 of 63 for 37 percent.
The difference in the game was at the free-throw line. Buena Vista made 34 of 43 attempts to Upper Iowa's 5 of 13.
Robby Beyer scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Beavers, now 11-2 in the league and 14-3 overall. Scott Weber had 10 points and seven rebounds and Brett Smith 10 points and five steals.
Scott Swalley grabbed eight rebounds, while Jones had five. Nolan Stribe charted five rebounds and four assists, while Nick Winters finished with three assists.
Jeremy Holmes scored nine points for Buena Vista, ranked sixth in this week's NCAA Division III West Region poll.
* Jamie Luchtel poured in a game-high 27 points and grabbed nine rebounds to help send Upper Iowa to a 65-51 upset win over Buena Vista in an Iowa Conference game Tuesday night at Fayette.
Upper Iowa shot 52 percent in the first half in building a 28-25 advantage at the break. The Peacocks shot 50 percent in the second half to Buena Vista's 31 percent in outscoring the Beavers 37-26.
Upper Iowa finished the game shooting 26 of 51 for 51 percent compared to 22 of 64 for 34 percent for Buena Vista.
Kinzee Hanson led Buena Vista, now 6-7 in the league and 7-10 overall, with 11 points. Amy Meggers added 10 and Sally Rezabek nine.
Jennifer Lange cleared seven rebounds for the Beavers, while Rezabek added five.
Hanson and Jessica Jensen each charted three assists, while Kelli Taylor, Amanda Nelson, Allison Schultz, Rezabek, Lange and Ashli Launderville all had two. Nelson tallied five steals.
Tara Keller scored 18 points for the Peacocks, now 3-8 in the league and 5-10 overall.
Upper Iowa outrebounded Buena Vista 42-29 in the game.
