Memorial services for Gerald C. Smith, 83, of Nemaha, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at United Methodist Church in Nemaha, with Rev. Carl Schultz officiating.
The body was donated to science and inurnment will take place at a later date. There will be no visitation. The Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Odebolt is in charge of professional arrangements.
Mr. Smith passed away Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at Loring Hospital in Sac City.
He was born Jan. 29, 1917, the son of Rolla and Josephine (Staver) Smith. He served during World War II in the United States Army.
On April 27, 1941, he married Celesta Whitmore in Nemaha.
He worked as a plumber and electrician for many years. In his spare time, he enjoyed sporting events of all kinds, and was especially fond of the University of Iowa Hawkeyes and the Iowa State Cyclones sports programs. He was an avid golfer and also enjoyed watching old movies.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
He is survived by one daughter and her husband Kathy and Tom Roberts of Nemaha; three grandchildren; two brothers: Marvin of New York and Boyd of Florida; two sisters: Phyllis Strong of Oregon and Patty Rubalcaba of Arizona.
