The Alta Police Department responded to 410 East 2nd Street shortly after 11:30 p.m. Saturday, in reference to an assault which had taken place at the residence.
When police arrived, they learned the victim, Jose Bustos, and his wife had been assaulted by three young males armed with weapons. Police also discovered Bustos's car had been vandalized.
The three individuals involved in the case were identified as Jesus Javier Najera, 19, Reginaldo Medina-Najera, 20 and Jose Benavides, 27, all of Alta. When police located the suspects, they were armed with other weapons, including a 10-inch knife and a 20-inch steel pipe, and were allegedly enroute back to the Bustos residence to continue their assault.
Javier-Najera was charged with Assault with Intent to Cause Serious Injury, a serious misdemeanor; Going Armed with Intent, a class D Felony; OWI 2nd Offense and Failure to have a Valid Driver's License. Medina-Najera was charged with Assault with the Intent to Cause Serious Injury and Going Armed with Intent. Benevides was charged with Public Intoxication, a simple misdemeanor.
The Alta Police Department was assisted by the Buena Vista County Sheriff's Office, Buena Vista County Sheriff's Reserve Unit and the Storm Lake Police Department.
