Schaller girl receives 4-H award and $100 savings bond

Tuesday, October 12, 2004

Mary Foell of Sac County received a state 4-H horticulture project award. Foell, 15, is the daughter of Bill and Laura Foell of Schaller. Her award and $100 savings bond are sponsored by the Iowa 4-H Foundation.

During her eight years 4-H involvement, Foell has completed several major projects including horticulture, food and nutrition, citizenship, leadership and crop production and has served her local 4-H as president, junior leader, treasurer and secretary. She has served on the county 4-H council and has received awards for top record book and sustainable agriculture grant project.

"With 4-H as part of my life, I have become a better citizen, more involved in the community and I look at others before considering my wants and needs," Foell said. "I have also learned that I must have the opportunities to try new things and be different from the rest of the crowd."

Foell is a sophomore at Schaller-Crestland High School.

For information on how to get involved in 4-H contact the Iowa State University Extension Sac County office at 712-662-7131.
