The Early City Council has unanimously granted the mayor the authority to sign an application for a Community Development Grant for up to $300,000 to improve the beleagured water system.
In a recent public hearing, no one spoke for or against the issue.
The council hopes to replace the city water tower and replacement of 4,750 linear feet of water mains, at an estimated cost of $735,000. The most CDBG grants currently pay is $300,000.
The Early City Council also recently attended a joint meeting with school officials to discuss zero tolerance policies for student traffic alcohol violations.
