BV men, women knock off Coe

CEDAR RAPIDS - Robby Beyer made two free throws with 10 seconds remaining in overtime to give Buena Vista a 79-76 victory over Coe College in an Iowa Conference game Friday night at Cedar Rapids.

Beyer was fouled after a missed Buena Vista shot and sank both free throws. Coe's last-second shot was no good.

Buena Vista trailed by as much as 19 points in the second half before rallying.

Nolan Stribe and Nick Winters each finished with 18 points. Beyer added 13 points for the Beavers, now 9-2 in the league and 12-3 overall.

Adam Jones and Stribe each grabbed eight rebounds, while Scott Weber added six. Brett Smith and Weber handed out four assists apiece.

Buena Vista shot 26 of 65 from the field for 40 percent to Coe's 30 of 66 for 46 percent. The Beavers were 17 of 21 from the free-throw line, including five by Winters in overtime. Coe was 9 of 16 from the stripe.

Coe led 33-23 at halftime and held its biggest lead of the game at 46-27 early in the second half, but Buena Vista would cut it to 64-58 with 3:41 to go.

Buena Vista would later cut it to 68-67 on a basket by Robby Beyer with 38 seconds left.

After a Coe free throw, Beyer scored inside to tie the game at 69-69 with 21 seconds left.

* Buena Vista used a 21-0 spurt in the second half to pull away and post a 77-61 victory over Coe in the women's game.

Buena Vista held a 52-44 lead in the second half and scored 21 straight points to go up 73-44 with 4:06 to play.

Allison Schultz scored 108points to lead Buena Vista, now 6-5 in the league and 7-8 overall. Kinzee Hanson added 12 points and seven rebounds. Sally Rezabek and Kelli Taylor scored nine points apiece, while Amy Meggers grabbed eight rebounds.

Amanda Nelson had five assists for the Beavers, who were 29 of 70 from the field for 41 percent.
