SL Chamber of Commerce names award nominees

The Storm Lake Chamber of Commerce has released the names of the businesses and business people who have been nominated for Chamber of the Year honors.

The winners will be announced at the annual Chamber of Commerce awards banquet next Wednesday.

There are five categories including Business Person of the Year, New Business of the Year, Business Improvement of the Year, Customer Service of the Year and Chamber Involvement.

The Business of the Year nominees include:

*Denis Gorde, Bomgaars

*Celia Knoffloch, Floors Etc.

*Mike Porsch, Ressler Drug

*Rhonda Riggenberg, Paxton's Jewelry.

The Business of the Year is based on community involve-ment by a business owner or manager during the past year.

The nominees for New Business of the Year include:

*Brown's Shoe Fit

*Omni Portrait Studio

*O'Reilly Auto Parts

The Business Improvement of the Year award is designed for existing businesses who have made improvements during 2000 by expanding or remodeling or by adding new products or services. Nominees are:

*Anderson's Books and More

*Baker's Court

*First Federal Savings Bank of the Midwest

*Godfather's

*Lakeshore Cafe

*Lighthouse Inn

*Villager

Nominees for the Customer Service of the Year award include:

*Julius Cleaners

*Mickeson Tire

*Taco John's

This award is for businesses who have exemplified out-standing customer service or customer relations.

Chamber Involvement Award honors are for outstanding efforts in Chamber activities and projects. The nominees include:

*Roger Christiansen, Commercial Sign and Design

*Dick Hakes, Hakes Publications

*Cal Johnson, United Oil Company.

The Chamber of Commerce awards banquet will be held at Buena Vista University. The social hour will begin at 6 p.m. and the dinner and the presentation of awards will get underway at 7 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by "One Guy," Gordy Pratt, who will provide a musical comedy variety show.

Tickets for Chamber members are $20 and may be purchased by calling the Chamber office at 732-3780 by Friday, Jan. 19.
