The Storm Lake High volleyball team went 2-2 here Saturday in the Schaller-Crestland Invitational Tournament, taking third place.
The Tornadoes opened with a 21-11, 21-16 loss to Wall Lake View Auburn. But they followed that up with two pool play wins, beating Ogden 24-22 and 21-16 and Rockwell City-Lytton, 19-21, 21-19 and 15-10.
"We came out of pool play only losing to WLVA," said Storm Lake coach Jacquie Bauer. "I wish we would have had the opportunity to play them later in the day."
After winning their pool, the Tornadoes traveled from Schaller to Early, where they lost to Schaller-Crestland 21-2 and 21-18 in the tourney semifinals.
"The break caused us to be a little slow out of the blocks against Schaller," Bauer said. "Overall, it was not a bad day. We got to use some different lineups and move some things around."
With the four game split, the Tornadoes' overall record went to 6-8.
Junior hitter Trish Halder led the Storm Lake offense on the day with 11 kills on 27 of 32 hitting. Jess Overturf added ten kills on 28 of 38 hitting while Amy Sennert finished with three kills and Jenny Jones with five.
Overturf also had a good day setting, making good on 106 of 108 sets with 26 set assists. Setter Erin Anderson was 46 of 48 with 16 set assists.
Sennert was tough at the service line, coming up with nine ace serves. Jenny Jones didn't miss a serve all day and served three aces. Halder served 90 percent with four aces.
Up next for the Tornadoes is a home game Thursday night in a Parent's Night tilt against Lakes Conference opponent Sheldon.
