Kickball tourney at Cherokee
Cherokee's First Annual Kickball Tournament will be held September 25 and 26 at Wescott Field. Entry fee is $50 per team. This double elimination tournament is limited to 16 teams. Teams must consist of five guys and five girls and all players must be at least 18 years of age. 1st place $200, 2nd place $150, and 3rd place $100 (based on 16 entries.) Pumpkin Hollow opening soon
The Pumpkin Hollow is set to Open Saturday, October 9. Come visit Pumpkin Hollow, sponsored by the Maple Valley Ag 4-H Club of Buena Vista County, starting every weekend in October from 1-5 p.m. A School Tour Package can be arranged for October 14 and 15, for more information call 282-4483. Located two miles north on Alta on M31 (50th Avenue) and a half mile west on gravel. Watch for the signs!
Quilter exhibit begins at Sanford
Sanford Museum opens a new West Gallery exhibit, "Quilts by Rena Waul." Mrs. Waul has been quilting since the 1930s and averages eight quilts per year. Forty-one of her quilts will be on display until October 31. The Art Wall will feature the photographs of Larry Stone, a free lance nature photographer from Elkader. Three very unique firearms will also be on display until October 18, commemorating Cherokee County, Iowa's Sesquicentennial and the Lewis and Clark expedition.
Broadway comes to Alta benefit
The United Methodist Church in Alta hosts the Buena Vista Community Theater touring group A Touch of Broadway, Sunday, Sept. 26 at 2 p.m. Partial funds from ticket sales will go to the Lord's Cupboard in Alta, celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Refreshments follow in Anderson Hall. $5 for adults, $2.50 for kids 6-12 and free to children under 6. Tickets may be purchased in advance by calling the church office at 200-2304 or by calling Randall Ericksen at 281-1289. The public is invited to attend.
