If you like good German food then Hanover is the place to be on Saturday, September 25.
Every fall with the exception of 2001 when the construction was underway on the Church's addition, the rural Alta congregation of St. John Lutheran Church have hosted a German Feast. This year the 13th annual German Feast will be held on September 25.
The basement fellowship hall where the meal is served is fully handicap accessible with drive-up drop-off area and full-sized elevator. The addition also includes a multi-purpose meeting room and handicapped restrooms on the main floor as well as two classrooms in the lower level.
Be sure to bring your appetite for the homemade bounty including sauerkraut and brats, sauerbraten, German potato salad, as well as the congregation's garden produce including beet pickles, corn, cucumbers, tomatoes and applesauce. The meal is served family style accompanied by home-baked breads, summer sausage and cheese and a delicious apple cake for dessert.
In the past, close to 500 people have enjoyed the feast each year, so please help the committee plan by calling in your reservation for a 5, 6:15, or 7:15 p.m. meal. Adults are $8, children 5-12 $3 and preschoolers eat free. Contact numbers are 284-1230, 434-5630, and 282-4459.
The proceeds are divided equally between this year's chosen projects. They include Friends of Frosty in Alta, Hanover Preschool and Hanover Church 125th Anniversary Celebration. Thrivent Financial Services will be matching funds.
Hanover is located on County Roads M27 and C65 approximately seven miles west and two miles southwest of Storm Lake, or four miles south and three miles west of Alta.
The church is located across the road from the historic Hanover village.
