The Storm Lake City Council recently approved first reading of an ordinance to change rezoning for a warehouse on North Michigan south of Fourteenth Street.
Jeff and Becky Loew are asking for the rezoning of the property currently owned by the Cox Family Trust from R-3 Multifamily Dwelling District to C-2 Commercial. The Loews want to purchase three lots fronting North Michigan Avenue and west of their business, Loew's Carpet One on North Lake Avenue.
Councilman Denny Vaudt asked that the ordinance amendment not be enacted on first reading. Vaudt said he had no problem with the Loew's rezoning request. Rather, he said he questioned the council's practice of adopting ordinances on first rezoning.
The council agreed to bring the amendment back again at its Sept. 20 meeting before making final approval.
