DUBUQUE - Freshman Scott Weber scored a career-high 16 points to lead four players in double figures to help Buena Vista escape with a 78-73 victory over Dubuque in an Iowa Conference game Saturday night at Dubuque.
The Beavers held the Spartans to 35 percent shooting in the first half in building a 38-31 lead at the break.
Buena Vista, however, were a cold 9 of 29 from the field for 31 percent in the second half but were only outscored 42-40.
Buena Vista finished the game shooting 21 of 59 for 36 percent. Dubuque was 26 of 61 for 43 percent.
The difference in the game was free-throw shooting. Buena Vista was 31 of 41 compared to 15 of 23 for Dubuque.
Adam Jones scored 14 points, Brett Smith 11 and Robby Beyer 10 for the Beavers, now 8-2 in the league and 11-3 overall.
Nick Winters cleared eight rebounds while Weber added five. Smith charted four steals.
Jamaal Smith led Dubuque with 22 points.
Buena Vista plays at Coe this Friday and hosts Simpson on Saturday.

Greta Pemsl scored 22 points and hauled down 13 rebounds in leading Dubuque to an Iowa Conference win over Buena Vista on Saturday night.
Dubuque shot 48 percent in the first half in jumping out to a 40-26 lead at intermission. The Spartans shot 44 percent in the second half to maintain their lead.
Buena Vista, meanwhile, struggled from the field. The Beavers hit only 10 of 35 shots in the first half for 29 percent and were just 11 of 46 in the second half for 24 percent.
Buena Vista finished the game 21 of 81 for 26 percent. Dubuque was 23 of 50 for 46 percent.
Dubuque owned a huge advantage at the free-throw line, making 24 of 27 compared to 10 of 13 for Buena Vista.
Jennifer Lange scored 14 points to lead Buena Vista, now 5-5 in the league and 6-8 overall. Allison Schultz added nine points.
Lange, Kinzee Hanson and Amanda Nelson all had seven rebounds. Kelli Taylor had three assists.
