Feds spend $4,861 per BV County resident, far short of U.S. average

Direct federal spending in Buena Vista County increased by 6.0 percent from $88,951,000 during fiscal year 1998 to $94,317,000 during fiscal year 1999, according to a report recently issued by the U.S. Department of Commerce.

The Federal Government's fiscal years runs from Oct. 1 through Sept. 30. Federal spending in the county had declined slightly the previous year.

Direct Spending

This same report indicated that total direct federal spending in the United States had increased from $1,484.2 billion during fiscal 1998 to $1,539.9 billion during fiscal year 1999 or by 3.8 percent. Nationally, direct federal spending had increased by 3.7 percent from fiscal 1997 to fiscal 1998 having amounted to $1,431.1 billion during fiscal 1997.

Direct federal spending in Iowa was $15,601,525,000 during fiscal 1999 having increased by 7.3 percent from $14,534,928,000 during fiscal year 1998. Direct federal spending in the state had also increased by 7.3 percent from fiscal 1997 through fiscal 1998 having been $13,542,447,000 during fiscal 1997.
