Albert City student goes overseas to study in Netherlands

Tuesday, January 16, 2001

Abigail Bloom, daughter of Arland and Barbara Bloom of Albert City and a junior at Central College in Pella, will spend the spring semester studying in the Netherlands on the international studies program, administered there by Central. Abigail is a 1998 graduate of Albert City-Truesdale High School.

Central's Netherlands program includes a two-week stay with a Dutch family before moving on to college dormitories in Leiden to begin the school year.

Course work will be completed under the supervision of experienced Dutch professors in classes arranged for Central students and at Webster and Leiden Universities. The students are given the chance to work internships and engage in service-learning projects at various Dutch businesses and agencies.

Central College is one of the few independent colleges in the United States to operate its own study-abroad programs. Central has seven other study-abroad centers, including English language programs in Yucatan, Mexico; Carmarthen, Wales; London, England and Essex, England, as well as foreign language programs in Paris, France; Vienna, Austria and Granada, Spain.
