If you have diabetes, selecting and preparing foods that are low in sugar, fat and sodium can be a real challenge. The Buena Vista County office of Iowa State University Extension will offer a series of cooking classes for people with diabetes and their family members or caretakers.
Dining with Diabetes will meet on Thursday, September 23, September 30 and October 14 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Storm Lake High School Room 18, 621 Tornado Drive, Storm Lake. You must be able to attend all three sessions.
How to cook with artificial sweeteners, low-fat products, and herbs and spices will be discussed. Class participants will get recipe booklets, watch cooking demonstrations, and taste foods made with less fat, sugar and salt.
The cost of the program is $20 or $30 for two people in the same household. No products will be sold at the classes. Spaces are limited, so call the Extension office by September 16 at 712-732-5056 to enroll now.
