Field Day to be hosted at local farm

Monday, August 30, 2004

The Buena Vista Soil and Water Conservation District Commissioners will be hosting a Field Day on September 8 to kick off the newly funded Storm Lake water quality project.

The field day will feature conservation practices currently implemented in the Storm Lake Watershed.

The field day will be held at Steve Turnquist's Farm at 10 a.m. and highlights his efforts to improve water quality. Dick Schultz of Iowa State University, Department of Natural Resource Ecology and Management, will discuss the benefits of installing Buffers and Boulder Weirs in the watershed.

Commissioners will also discuss the cost-share available for conservation practice installation within the watershed.

With the ongoing dredging projects on the lake, it is imperative to continue the conservation efforts in the watershed.

Turnquist's Farm is located in section 23 Nokomis Township, or take 580th St. to 60th Avenue and turn north toward Powell Creek.

Please make plans to attend, and find out how you can help keep Storm Lake clean.

For more information please call Kimberly Proctor at 732-3096. Field day will be held rain or shine.
