Raising the dough
To most people, Cassy Snedeker of Newell would seem just like your average, small-town girl. But there's a lot more to this 13-year-old than meets the eye.
Snedeker, the 1999 Miss Buena Vista County and reigning Miss Iowa Junior Teen, is headed for the Miss Tennessee Junior Teen Pageant Aug. 26-29 in Nashville where she has been invited to sing Amazing Grace for the pageant. She will also help with judging the pageant.
Snedeker will later travel to Orlando, FL Nov. 22-30 for the National American Coed Pageant. That pageant requires that participants have won an earlier pageant. That's no problem for Snedeker. The daughter of Karalyn Snedeker of Newell, Cassy was chosen Miss Iowa Junior Teen in Des Moines this past March. She was also named the Younker Baby and the Alco Baby and she was ambassador for Iowa for the American Coed Pageant in 2002.
Snedeker said there are 30 girls in her age group and 100 altogether in the national pageant. Contestants are judged on poise, appearance, talent, and speeches. For her speech, Snedeker will speak about herself and Iowa.
Cassy was hard at work this past weekend during Newell Pride Days, selling baked goods she had made herself to help pay for her trip to Orlando. Anyone who wishes to contribute to Cassy's travel fund may send a check to: Cassy Snedeker, 1863 610th St., Newell, IA 50568.
