St. Mary's girls gain split in CYO

SIOUX CITY - Peggy Ploeger scored 11 points to help send Storm Lake St. Mary's to a 44-35 victory over Remsen St. Mary's in the CYO Tournament on Sunday.

St. Mary's led 10-8 after the first period, 21-14 at halftime and 29-19 after three periods.

Megan Kestel added eight points for the Panthers, while Jill Kestel grabbed nine rebounds and Ploeger seven. Jen Petersen had four steals for the Panthers, who shot 34 percent.

Granville Spalding defeated St. Mary's 39-30 in the first round on Saturday. Jill Kestel scored 10 points and cleared 17 rebounds. Megan Kestel added seven rebounds.

Kassie Drey handed out eight assists. Jill Kestel was named to the all-tournament team.
