Cold shooting hurts BV women in loss

STORM LAKE - Cold first half shooting by Buena Vista parlayed into a big lead for Wartburg as the Knights built a 16-point halftime lead and went on to post a 79-59 victory in an Iowa Conference game Saturday night at Siebens Fieldhouse.

Wartburg, which shot 50 percent in the first half, took a 43-27 lead at the break. The Beavers managed to hit just 10 of 29 field goals in the first half for 35 percent.

Buena Vista's shooting wasn't much better in the second half as it made 10 of 35 shots for 29 percent.

The Beavers finished the game 20 of 64 for 31 percent, including 3 of 16 from 3-point range. Wartburg was 30 of 62 for 48 percent.

Wartburg had four players in double figures, led by Brianne Schoonover's 18 points. Molly Mason added 12, and Jenni Donohue and Molly Mohs each had 10.

Kelli Taylor scored 14 points to lead Buena Vista, now 4-3 in the conference and 5-6 overall. Amanda Nelson had 11 points and three assists.

Kinzee Hanson contributed nine points, eight rebounds and three steals, while Jennifer Lange grabbed six rebounds.

Wartburg outrebounded Buena Vista 44-35.
