STORM LAKE - Wade Brower scored 14 points and Brandon Kies added 10 despite being plagued by foul trouble as fourth-ranked Newell-Fonda held off Storm Lake St. Mary's 67-56 in a Northwest Conference game Friday night.
St. Mary's held an 18-17 lead after the first quarter. The Mustangs led 40-25 at the halftime break and 47-42 at the end of the third period.
Travis Brown, Corey Carlton and Jared Daniel all scored nine points apiece for the Mustangs, now 5-1 in the league and 5-1 overall.
Eric Wordekemper scored a game-high 16 points to lead St. Mary's, now 3-4 in the league and 3-4 overall. Billy Mach scored 10 points and Joe Fitzgerald nine.
Wordekemper had five rebounds and Kyle Drey three. Fitzgerald handed out five assists and Wordekemper and Eric Drey each had two steals.
St. Mary's was 18 of 52 from the field for 35 percent compared to 27 of 52 for 52 percent for Newell-Fonda.
