Habitat for Humanity seeks fourth partner family

Monday, January 8, 2001

Construction on the third home built in the Storm Lake area by Habitat for Humanity of Buena Vista County is nearing completion. The home will soon be occupied by the Bravo family and so the search begins for this Habitat affiliate's fourth family.

The non-profit organization selects families who currently live in inadequate housing, who are willing to partner with Habitat volunteers in building a home and who are able to repay the mortgage on the house.

Habitat for Humanity seeks not only to provide affordable housing, but also to uplift families. The organization rejoices in the accomplishment of its mission when the members of a family are able to complete their obligations and provide payment in full for their home. Soon this will be the case for Storm Lake's second Habitat family. Michelle Koster plans to relocate, requiring her to put her home on the market.

The process of selling a Habitat home includes the involvement of the local Habitat affiliate. When Ms. Koster sells her home, she will repay the local Habitat affiliate the remainder of her mortgage, which will allow the group to reinvest in additional housing for low income families.
