The three men killed in this weekend's plane crash in residential neighborhood all shared a love of cycling.
Friends and family have identified the men as Bill Neal, 58, a prominent developer and community leader, Scott Nelson, 38, a commercial real estate broker and Leo Schuster, 50, a Loveland homebuilder.
They were on their way to the week-long Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa, or RAGBRAI, on Saturday when their twin-engine plane crashed just minutes after taking off.
Schuster was piloting the plane, which landed in the middle of a street and set off several small explosions. No one on the ground was injured.
"These were guys who would get up Sunday morning and ride their bikes to Estes Park to have some breakfast," said Terry Heyne, who worked with Schuster for 20 years.
Their fourth buddy, Mark Haenny, was to meet them at the race. "Mark was saved for a reason. He's going to have to make a difference now. It's definitely life-changing," his wife said of the incident.
