The Storm Lake Police Department, the Buena Vista County Sheriff's Department and the Iowa State Patrol joined forces Dec. 30 and Dec. 31 to conduct a Traffic Education and Enforcement Project in Storm Lake.
The agencies were involved in a series of contacts with motorists to help educate the drivers on safe driving techniques in order to enhance the safety on the roads in and around Storm Lake through the New Year's weekend.
During the two day period, law enforcement officers wrote 18 traffic citations, issued 30 warnings for traffic violations, 59 warnings for equipment violations, conducted five motorist assists and arrested one subject for public intoxication.
The Storm Lake Police Department will be involved in a series of these Education and Enforcement details throughout 2001.
Law enforcement officials would like to remind motorists to drive safe, watch your speed, buckle up and have a happy and safe 2001.
