The new year for the First Cooperative Association (FCA) includes some major changes as well as some small adjustments as the association looks towards streamlining its operations.
Within Buena Vista County, two local elevators - at Sioux Rapids and Truesdale - will close. While FCA's general manager says the change is needed, some area farmers are upset about hauling grain further to other FCA elevators.
Jim Carlson, general manager of FCA, said since the formation of FCA in 1997, little if no changes have been made in the day-to-day operations. Four area cooperatives merged to create FCA.
Member owners of FCA have already been informed of the changes in a two-page announcement sent out last week. Many in the Sioux Rapids and Truesdale area had suspected the impending elevator closings for some time.
