Beavers clipped by Wisconsin-Eau Claire 91-80 in overtime.
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - Fourth-ranked Buena Vista had its school-record 30-game regular season winning streak snapped as the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire scored the first five points in overtime and went on to hand the Beavers their first loss of the season, 91-80 last Saturday night in the Wisconsin-Eau Claire Holiday Classic championship game.
The victory also ended a 17-game road winning streak for the Beavers.
"It was an outstanding game," Buena Vista coach Brian Van Haaften said. "It's too bad someone had to lose a game like that. Both teams played good basketball. I think the tell tale sign for us was we probably didn't rebound quite as well as we needed to. They got a few easy baskets off rebounds and second shot opportunities. That was the tell tale sign I think. We're 8-0 when we outrebound our opponents and 0-1 when we don't."
"We've really improved in the post," Van Haaften added. "Last year, we struggled against them in the post and this year it was the strength of our game. We got a lot of points out of our inside game. I thought that was a big difference in the game."
