STORM LAKE - Now that the 30-game winning streak is over, Buena Vista will try to start another one this weekend when it plays at Luther on Friday night and hosts Wartburg in a battle of Iowa Conference unbeatens on Saturday night.
However, it won't be easy for the 10th-ranked Beavers to begin another winning streak.
"Luther is a tough place to play," Buena Vista coach Brian Van Haaften said. "They have one of the very good guards in this league in Brian Moeller. He is really doing a good job for those guys. He's the leading scorer in the league at 18 points a game, so we have to try and guard him hard."
Jared Bly is the other part of the Norse's one-two punch.
"Jared Bly is an excellent 3-point shooter, and he and Moeller score just about half of their points," Van Haaften said. "If we can do a decent job on those two guys, I think we'll be OK."
"Bly is someone who catches the ball and shoots and we need to be with him at all times," Van Haaften added. "We want to deny Moeller the ball and stop his penetration. He's pretty good at putting the ball on the floor."
Van Haaften addressed the keys to beating the Norse.
"I think to slow Moeller down a little bit," he said. "We have to get ourselves going again on the rebounding battle and to really get the ball moving on offense and get it reversed and get it inside ... the things that have helped us be successful."
Wartburg is 4-0 in the league and 7-1 overall.
