The nationally televised Mrs. America Pageant has issued a call for Buena Vista County to find a candidate to compete for the title of Mrs. Iowa 2001. Unless someone steps forward within the next month, it appears the area will go unrepresented.
The Mrs. Iowa Pageant is a statewide event that honors the state's loveliest married women and sends an Iowa representative to the national Mrs. America competition. According to Michele Rager and Tracy Christ, executive directors, "We have had a number of inquiries from women in the area, but as of today, no one has followed through." There is still time for a contestant to step forward, but she will need to act quickly. Christ said, "I must have the completed application in no later than April 30. Contestants will have time to prepare, since the pageant does not begin until June 8, 2001.
