Gary Molgaard will be sworn in as the new Alta Fire Chief at Monday night's city council meeting.
Molgaard will be replacing Dave Koth, who has served as the fire chief for the past eight years.
"I'm excited," Molgaard said. "There's been a lot of changes and it will be a new learning experience for all of us."
Molgaard has been a volunteer with the Alta Fire Department for 27 years and served as the Alta Fire Chief for seven years running 10 years ago. Molgaard said he is looking forward to the opportunity once again as there have been many changes made within the past year.
"Last year the legislature mandated how the fire departments are funded from the townships," Molgaard said. "We're already plugging away at our budget with guidance from the state."
Molgaard said the budget is paramount right now because he believes as much as things change, they also stay the same.
Overseeing the budget will be one of the many duties Molgaard will handle as fire chief.
"I'm the guy who will try to keep all the firefighters safe and alive," Molgaard said. "We'll work to keep up on safety and training as well as with our equipment."
