Funeral services for Peter Drey, 72, were held Tuesday, Dec. 26, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early. Father Patrick O'Kane and Father Mervin Hood officiated the 10:30 a.m. service.
Attendants were Dennis Drey, Dave Drey, Joe Puetz and Leonard Pickhinke. Merton V. Hair American Legion Post No. 325 of Early and Nemaha conducted the presentation of the flag. Farber and Otteman Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Drey passed away Friday, Dec. 22 at his farm in Early.
Peter James, the son of John and Helen (Sampers) Drey, was born Aug. 3, 1928, in Early. He was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Church in Early and received his education in the Early schools. He served in Europe with the United States Army.
On March 4, 1952, he was united in marriage to Edda Christine Drosse in Berlin, Germany. The couple lived and farmed in the Early area since 1952.
Mr. Drey was a member Sacred Heart Church and the Lions club. His hobbies and interests included golf, woodworking, helping others, reading, and being with his family.
Mr. Drey was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Chris of Early; one son Michael and his wife Marcia Drey of New Hampton; two daughters: Connie Sue and her husband Jerry Hoffman of Johnson and Cynthia and her husband Kenneth Brandt of Minneapolis, Minn; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandson; four brothers and their wives: Joseph and Marian Drey of Early, Ken and Gladys Drey of Creston, John and Elaine Drey of Pasadina, Texas and Tom and Dorie Drey of Council Bluffs; three sisters: Dorothy, Mrs. Bob Heisterkamp, of Breda, Margaret Drey and Joan Drey, both of Minneapolis, Minn.
