Linn Grove parent gets state award for volunteerism

Friday, December 29, 2000

Linda Patterson of Linn Grove was named State of Iowa Parent Volunteer at a noon lunch during Iowa's fifth Statewide Parent Conference held recently at the Four Points Sheraton Inn in Des Moines.

Patterson was nominated by Bonnie Mester, who is now retired, but was a Title 1 teacher at Sioux Central. Patterson, a volunteer for the Rockin' Readers program, worked faithfully with one of Mrs. Mester's challenged Title 1 readers throughout the 1999-2000 school year.

She and her husband, Kent and their daughter, Maggie, also attended the Family Reading Nights, sponsored by Sioux Central's Title 1 program. Patterson is also very active, serving as treasurer of the PEO group, which has donated money to help the school invest in literature sets for the lower elementary teachers to use in teaching guided reading.

Patterson is the second Sioux Central parent in four years to receive the honor of State of Iowa Volunteer. Kathi Middendorff received the award in 1997.
