Storm Lake high school principals and teachers discussed how homework should be an integral and relevant part of every student's instructional program during the board meeting last week. The Storm Lake school board feel home assignments should be used consistently throughout the grades and classes and discussed some ways it can be used to do so.
"Though they have no real concerns, they wanted to bring the issue to the forefront and inform others on what they believe reasons for making assignments are," Superintendent Bill Kruse said.
Homework should be an extension and enrichment of the regular classroom instructional program, the board feels. The Storm Lake Community Schools subscribe to the theory that the best homework is the additional research, investigation and exploration which students are motivated to do voluntarily because of the interest which has been created by the teacher in the classroom.
