Wednesday, December 27, 2000

The need for dermatology services was discussed by the Buena Vista County Hospital trustees recently.

Board members noted the fact that dermatology services are available in Spencer, but pointed out that those facilities do not accept insurance.

"Definitely (dermatology) is a service that is needed here," board member Mike Sharer said.

The board of trustees agreed to pursue the possibility of offering dermatology services at BVCH.

* Mike Dewerff, BVCH chief financial officer, announced that gross patient revenue for August topped the $2 million mark, a first for BVCH. Gross patient revenue has normally been $1.7-$1.8 million.

Hospital CEO Jim Sinek pointed out that those funds are reinvested to improve the care provided by BVCH.

* Brad Strader, director of the BVCH Foundation, plans to establish a committee of 14 people from Storm Lake and the surrounding area to be in place by February or March in order to start fundraising efforts by April or May of 2001.
