Four days of fun and events await the entire family at the 2004 Cherokee County Fair, Thursday, July 8 through Sunday, July 11 at the Fairgrounds in South Cherokee.
The entertainment kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 8, with an energetic and powerful show of music and dance featuring Angie Broberg and the band, "Prairie Fire" on the main stage.
Many popular daily features also await fair goers, including pony rides, an exotic petting zoo, Storm Lake chainsaw artist Jeff Klatt, and Westphal's Star Amusements on the Midway.
Beginning with sign-up at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, there will be a Golf Cart Obstacle Course, starting at 4 p.m. Four finalists will then compete in the finals at 6:30 p.m., all in the main arena.
On Friday, the highlight feature is the Regional Outlaw Sanctioned Tractor Pull's "Mid Summer Sweep" presented by the Iowa Tractor Pulling Association. The action begins at 7 p.m. at the south end of the fairgrounds.
At 9 p.m. to midnight Friday in the Activity Building is a Teen Dance featuring Samsel's DJ Service.
Also on Friday, Heritage Bank of Aurelia is serving free watermelon from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Activity Building, and the Cherokee County Beef Producers are serving burgers at 6:30 p.m. The accomplished Cavalier Drill Team performs at 6 p.m. in the main arena.
Saturday is full of entertaining events, including the annual Ladies Day Program starting at 9 a.m. This year's program is by Stacie Stoelting, a Cherokee native and author of the book "Still Holding Hands," a poignant account of her late grandfather's struggle with Alzheimer's.
At noon Saturday is the Pedal Tractor Pull for ages 4-11.
The Demolition Derby is set for 6:30 p.m. Saturday, with the Cherokee County Pork Producers serving burgers at 5:30.
Also on Saturday is the annual Diaper Derby contest with registration at 11 a.m.
From noon to 4 p.m. it's also Kid's Day on the midway. Magician Cletus Henke performs at noon in the Activity Building, and Rock In Prevention is at 3 p.m.
The annual Talent Show is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday in the Activity Building, with first-place winners qualifying for the State Fair Competition. The second annual ATV Extravaganza is set for 1 p.m. Sunday.
Daily tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for children, and age 4 and under free. Season passes are available, with a discount on advance purchases.
