Garden club honors poetry by St. Mary's student

The National Council of State Garden Clubs sponsored a 1999-2000 poetry contest, titled "Step into My Garden" for grades kindergarten through ninth grade. Students could write about anything related to stepping into a garden - such as flowers, butterflies, spiders, ladybugs, bees, moths, birds, toads, etc.

The Buena Vista Federated Garden Club of Storm Lake had an entry for the eighth grade level, from Marisha Imming. She is the daughter of Doug and Colleen Imming and lives on a farm south of the lake. She has one sister, Janie, and attends school at St. Mary's.

At the annual Christmas dinner at Lakeshore, the Buena Vista Federated Garden Club presented Marisha with a first place certificate for the eighth grade level for the Central Region. She was also presented with a Christmas poinsettia.

The club also held installation of new officers and they include: President - Joyce Holmes; Vice President - Betty Chindlund; Secretary - Audrey Miller and Treasurer - Doris Berge
