Ruth Otten

April 27, 1927 - May 12, 2004

Services for Ruth "Elaine" Otten, 77, rural Chetek, were held May 17 at Chetek Lutheran Church with Pastor Keith Ruehlow and Sam Koche officiating.

She died Wednesday, May 12, at her home.

She was born April 27, 1927, in Linn Grove, to Lars and Alice (Karlsson) Benson. She was a 1944 graduate of Linn Grove High School in Linn Grove. She married Lloyd Glenn Otten December 29, 1945, in Cedar Rapids. She worked with her husband on their farm east of Chetek since spring of 1953, milking cows, doing the field work and also raising and caring for her family. She loved needle point, gardening (especially flowers), stitching, painting and was very good at rose malling. Her cooking talents were endless and she was also the problem solver. The true joy in her life, though, were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Lloyd, rural Chetek; son, Patrick (Kathi) of Rockford, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Chad, Stacey, Kortney and Andrew, all of Otten, and Brian Otten, Michelle (Jeff) Holt and Nichole Otten; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Iva Saggert of Iowa City; special niece, Alice Ferguson; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lars and Alice (Karlsson) Benson; stepmother, Elsie Benson; son, Michael Otten (2002); and three sisters, Doris, Bernice and Elsie.
