Mustangs top Sioux Central

Newell-Fonda scored six runs in the second inning and added five in the fourth and went on to beat Sioux Central here 15-3 in a five-inning game limited by the ten-run rule.

Senior Mustang righthander Matt Stauter allowed just three runs on five hits, walking four in the contest.

It was Sioux Central's second straight conference loss after being beaten by Alta Tuesday night. The Rebels are 0-2 in the Northwest Conference.

Meanwhile, Newell-Fonda improved to 5-1 overall and to 2-0 in conference play.

"We came out and hit the ball very well," said Newell-Fonda coach Del Rieman after the game. "Matt pitched well and we played good defense for the most part. It was a nice road win for our kids."

Stauter, meanwhile, helped his cause at the plate by driving in three runs with two doubles in four trips to the plate. He also scored three runs.

Also contributing in the hit parade for Newell-Fonda was senior Beau Artist, who drove in two runs with a double and Jake Schnell, who was 3 for 3 with 2 RBI.

Joseph Noethe was also 2 for 3 for the Mustangs with an RBI ad Alan Baskerville and junior Jared Nepple each had two hits.

The Mustangs banged out a total of 15 hits, had four walks and committed two errors. Stauter limited Sioux Central to five hits and the Rebels committed three errors.
