"We want to test the waters here," Behrens said. "(The feasibility study) is going to evaluate this thing and make sure if we go ahead it's viable."
While Albert City already hosts the Pleasant View Nursing Home, Behrens said many people expressed an interest in assisted living at a community meeting last fall.
"This study is going to tell us whether it is feasible for our community to do this," he said. "It's an extensive project and costs a lot of money - we do not want to proceed with this if we're not sure the community can support it."
During the study people of a target age range will be contacted to gauge their interest, while surrounding communities will also be examined to see what else is offered.
The assisted living facility proposed for Storm Lake by the Varenhorsts and Methodist Manor will also be looked at, Behrens said.
