Updates from the Storm Lake Police Department and the Buena Vista County Sheriff's Office.

ACCIDENTS

An accident occurred in the high school faculty parking lot, 621 Tornado Drive, shortly after 9 a.m. Friday. A 1995 Oldsmobile, owned by Cheryl Lustgraaf, 42, Storm Lake, was parked facing south on the north side of the parking lot. A 1997 Blue Bird school bus, driven by Nyles Myers, 68, Storm Lake, was attempting to back into a parking space and the vehicles collided. Damages were estimated at $300 to the Lustgraaf vehicle.

An accident happened at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday in the 200 block of East 5th Street. A 1992 Buick, driven by Marigene Fitzpatrick, 76, Storm Lake, was westbound on East 5th Street. A 1984 Honda, driven by Natalie Stanley, 15, Storm Lake, was attempting to pull into the westbound lane of traffic on East 5th Street from a parking space and the vehicles collided. Damages are estimated at $1,800 to the Fitzpatrick vehicle and $1,000 to the Stanley vehicle. Fitzpatrick was charged with Unsafe Entry to a Roadway, No Insurance and No Driver's License.

A hit and run accident occurred in the Hy-Vee parking lot, 1250 North Lake Avenue, shortly after 2:40 a.m. Saturday. A 1991 Pontiac, owned by Jeff Westcott, Albert City, was parked in the Hy-Vee parking lot when it was struck by an unknown vehicle which fled the accident. Damages were estimated at $150.

Shortly after 5:30 p.m. Saturday, an accident happened in the 800 block of Northwestern Drive. A 1989 Chevy, owned by Shannon Pranschke, 1464 640th Street, Storm Lake, was parked on Northwestern Drive when a 1992 Buick, driven by Alva Lease, 81, 1116 West 6th Street, Storm Lake, was northbound on Northwestern Drive and struck the Pranschke vehicle. Lease was charged with Failure to Maintain Control. Damages were estimated at $3,000 to the Lease vehicle and $3,000 to the Pranschke vehicle.

An accident happened shortly after 3:15 p.m. Monday in the 400 block of Flindt Drive. A 1992 Chevy, driven by Chantho Samountry, 45, 1714 Tulip Lane, Storm Lake, was southbound on Flindt Drive, attempting to make a right hand turn when a 1988 Nissan, driven by Francisco Cuevas, 27, 703 C West 8th Street, Storm Lake, was traveling behind the Samountry vehicle and was unable to stop due to the icy roadway and struck the rear of the Samountry vehicle. Samountry received possible injuries and transported himself to the Buena Vista County Hospital. Samountry was charged with Failure to Prove Security Against Liability. Damage was estimated at $50 to the Samountry vehicle and $1,400 to the Cuevas vehicle.

On Monday, shortly after 6:30 p.m., an accident occurred in the 400 block of Otsego Street. A 1995 Ford, owned by Jeffrey Loew, 215 Hudson Street, Storm Lake, was parked on Otsego Street when a 2000 Dodge, driven by Robert Ferguson III, 22, 407 Otsego Street, slid into the Loew vehicle due to the ice and snow covered roadway. Damage was estimated at $1,000 to the Ferguson vehicle and $750 to the Loew vehicle.

VANDALISM

On Saturday, Jeannine Johnson, 519 Oneida Street, Storm Lake, reported vandalism to the garage at her residence. Damage was estimated at $100.

On Saturday, Laura Terry, Truesdale, reported vandalism to her vehicle while parked in the Market Link parking lot, 1407 North Lake. Damages were estimated at $450.

THEFT

On Sunday, Elizabeth Burciago, 308 Oneida Street, Storm Lake, reported her coat and keys stolen from Malarky's Pub, 147 Flindt, Drive. Value of the items is estimated at $185.
