Alta Drill Team dances to second place finish
Members of the Alta Drill Team brought home a second place trophy in their Pom routine from the State Drill Team Competition a few weeks ago.
The dance squad took their Hoopla and their Pom routine to the state contest this year, where they received a Division I rating in each of their two performances.
"This is the first year the girls have taken two routines to state so we're just thrilled with the outcome," Coach Deanna McGowan said. "We've got a great group of girls who are very committed and work really hard. They worked really strong on their state routines for a couple of months and we're just thrilled to see them do so well."
The Drill Team consists of 16 dancers and two alternates, who are coached by McGowan and Laurie Millard.
"This is our first year of coaching the team and we're just really excited," McGowan said. "We have a smart group of girls and we're really proud of them for that too."
The Drill Team has a combined grade point average of 3.75. A grade point average of 3.78 won the academic award at this year's State competition.
