Buena Vista, now 5-0 in the league and 6-0 overall, made just 9 of 31 shot in the first half but only trailed 33-30 at the half.
The Beavers picked it up to 46 percent in the second half in outscoring the Duhawks 50-43. For the game, Buena Vista was 22 of 59 for 37 percent compared to Loras, which was 22 of 63 for 35 percent.
Buena Vista's balancing act continued as Brett Smith led five players in double figures with 15 points. Nolan Stribe and Robby Beyer each scored 13, while Adam Jones netted 12 and Chris Petersen 10.
Buena Vista outrebounded Loras 45-44. Nick Winters cleared seven, while Petersen and Smith each had six. Smith charted three assists, while Jones, Winters, Stribe and Smith all had two steals.
Buena Vista held a 58-45 lead with 8:20 remaining before Loras went on a 13-4 spurt to close within 62-58 with 4:46 to play.
The Beavers pushed the lead back up to 72-64 on two free throws by Stribe with 2:45 left. It was 78-76 Buena Vista with 8 seconds left when Smith made two free throws to seal it.
Chris Workman led Loras with 24 points. Carlo Agnello added 16 for the Duhawks.
Buena Vista is idle until Dec. 28-29 when it plays at the Wisconsin-Eau Claire Tournament.
