Tuesday, December 12, 2000

SCHALLER - Jason Pyle scored 16 points to lead four players in double figures as Schaller-Crestland got past Storm lake 70-57 in a boys basketball game on Saturday night at Schaller.

Schaller-Crestland led 18-16 after the first quarter, 40-28 at halftime and 49-43 after three periods of play.

Brian Pyle added 14 points for the Wildcats, while Greg Allen had 13 and Justin Bellcock 11.

Jeff DeHaan poured in a game-high 24 points to lead Storm Lake. Nate Storm added nine points and Tyler DeHaan eight.

Jeff DeHaan pulled down eight rebounds, while Bob Blanchard had six and Storm and Scott Ellens each had five.

Jeff DeHaan and Blanchard each had three assists, while DeHaan charted five steals and Ellens and Blanchard had three apiece.

Storm Lake was 16 of 40 shooting for 40 percent compared to 21 of 38 for 55 percent for the Wildcats.

"They did a good job with our press in the first half," Storm Lake coach Tim Keigan said. "They beat us back quite a bit. We just didn't get a lot of shots to fall the whole game. We had a lot of easy looks and missed a lot of layups. They had three to four seniors on the floor the whole time and we just don't have the experience yet. It was their fifth game and our second, and that definitely showed."

Storm Lake, now 0-2, plays Friday night at LeMars.
