Kids fishing contest in BV

The Buena Vista County Conservation Board fishing contest will be held Saturday, June 5, 9-11 a.m. at Gustafson Lake near Sioux Rapids. The contest is open to ages 6-15, and is part of the Fish Iowa aquatic education program through the DNR. Categories will be age 6-10 and 11-15, with prizes for heaviest fish and heaviest stringer of 3. Free of charge, limited to the first 50 kids. Call 749-2563 by June 3 to pre-register. Those 10 and under should be accompanied by an adult. The program counts toward the junior naturalist program.

PrimeTime set for June 10

CommUNITY Education is setting the stage for it's annual PrimeTime event, scheduled for Thursday, June 10. The event for those 55 years and better will be held at the Storm Lake Middle School. Doors open at 8 a.m. allowing plenty of time to register, eat a continental breakfast and browse the vendors' booths before the breakout sessions begin at 9 a.m.

This year's sessions range from a first hand account on life in Iraq to a sing-a-long, to flower arranging and a presentation on the Storm Lake Destination Park.

The featured keynote speaker is Jewell Dierwechter, popular local missionary nurse.

A live band dance at the Municipal Golf Club, featuring music from the big band era, will highlight the afternoon's activities. Root beer floats will be served to compliment the "Good Ol' Summertime" theme. Preregister with CommUNITY Education, 419 Lake Avenue. The fee is $7.
