Stewart leads Chargers to fifth at Lake City

The Laurens-Marathon boys track and field team took fifth place here Friday in an invitational meet played host to by Southern Cal.

Pocahontas won with 120 team points, followed by Southeast Webster, Manson Northwest Webster and Prairie Valley. In taking fourth, the Chargers finished with 40.5 team points.

Devin Stewart led the way for L-M, taking first in the 200 meter dash in 23.28 seconds.

The Chargers took second in two relays. The 4x200 relay of Brandon Bush, J.R. Johnsen, Steven Sernett and Stewart was second in 1 minute, 33.65 seconds while the 4x100 team of Bush, Sernett, John Griffin and Stewart was second in 44.91 seconds.

The Chargers' 4x400 relay team of Bush, Johnsen, Jessie Koenig and Griffin was third in 3:40.40.

Taking fourths for Laurens-Marathon were Shane Braunschweig in the long jump (18 feet, 9.5 inches) and Griffin in the 400 dash (53.65 seconds).

The 1600 medley relay team of Shane Sindegaard, Eric Japenga, James Alstott and Brett Latham was fifth in 4:04.01 while Johnsen took sixth in the 100 meter dash in 11.85 seconds.

Also, the 4x800 relay team of Alstott, Latham, Jason Dubbert and Matt Olsen was sixth in 2:15. Sindegaard added an individual sixth in the high jump with a leap of 5-4.
