SL girls stumble to Cherokee, 47-39

Thursday, December 7, 2000

CHEROKEE - Brooke Overturf and Lindsey Frederiksen scored 12 points apiece, but it wasn't enough as Cherokee knocked off Storm Lake 47-39 in a Lakes Conference game.

Storm Lake led 11-9 after the first quarter, but trailed 17-15 at the half. It was 32-25 Braves entering the fourth period of play.

Malay Bouaphakeo added eight points for Storm Lake, now 0-3 overall. Billie Blanchard cleared eight rebounds, while Frederiksen and Overturf each had seven. Storm Lake committed 27 turnovers in the game.

"We are improving in different areas each game," Storm Lake coach Stacey VanDerSloot said. "One area that we need to focus on is turnovers. Offensively, we are struggling at getting the ball inside to our post players. I asked the girls to concentrate on rebounding and we outrebounded them 34-23."
