No.2 N-F upset by Knights, 60-51 - GIRLS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP

POMEROY - Calista Oberhelman scored 15 points, and Kristin Zinnel added 14 points to help unranked Pomeroy-Palmer upset No. 2 Newell-Fonda 60-51 in a Northwest Conference game Tuesday night at Pomeroy.

Pomeroy-Palmer led 20-16 after the first quarter and were ahead 38-32 at halftime, but the Mustangs pulled to within 48-47 by the end of the third quarter. It was 50-50 with 3 minutes remaining when the Knights went on a 6-1 spurt to take a 56-51 lead with 1 minute to play.

Megan Holtorf scored 11 points for Pomeroy-Palmer, who owned a 16-9 advantage in made free throws.

Sara Larsen scored 14 points for Newell-Fonda, now 2-1 overall. Erin Kies, Amanda Kies and Ashley Loos all scored nine points apiece.

Larsen grabbed eight rebounds and Ashley Bellinghausen added six. Niki Maske had three assists, while Larsen, Maske and Erin Kies all charted two steals apiece.

Newell-Fonda was 18-for-55 shooting from the field for 32 percent.

Aurelia 55, SL St. Mary's 41

Emily Jipp pumped in 17 points and had four assists, and Kim Parker added 15 points and 10 rebounds as Aurelia bested Storm Lake St. Mary's in Northwest Conference play Tuesday night.

Aurelia held a 10-4 lead after the first quarter and extended it to 25-16 by halftime. It was 38-30 Bulldogs entering the fourth quarter.

Jill Smith charted nine assists and five steals for the Bulldogs. Lindsay Ireland added four assists and two steals.

Jill Kestel scored 12 points and cleared 11 rebounds to lead St. Mary's, now 2-2. Megan Kestel added eight points and five rebounds. Jill Kestel had four assists and Bri Barber five rebounds and three steals. Jen Petersen and Kassie Drey each charted three assists.

Odebolt-Arthur 46

Schaller-Crestland 56

Jenna Malcom scored 13 points and blocked five shots to power Schaller-Crestland past 18th-ranked Odebolt-Arthur.

Jessi Bellcock contributed 12 points, five assists and three steals, while Sara King added 11 points and six rebounds.

Lynn Franzkowiak had six rebounds and four assists, while Monica Bloyer added five rebounds for the Wildcats.

AC-T 59, Alta 38

Albert City-Truesdale handed Alta a Northwest Conference setback Tuesday night at Alta.

AC-T trailed 11-6 after the first quarter, but regrouped to take a 23-20 halftime lead. The Hurricanes extended their lead to 44-30 by the end of the third period of play.

Ashlea Payne scored 14 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and charted three assists and three steals to lead Alta. Casi Flink contributed 13 points and six rebounds.

Galva-Holstein 49

River Valley 22

Darci Vohs scored 15 points, grabbed eight rebounds, blocked seven shots and had six steals as 11th-ranked Galva-Holstein get past River Valley Tuesday.

Lindsey Murphy contributed 11 points, five assists and three steals for the Pirates, now 3-0. Stacy Friedrichsen added seven points and four steals.
