STORM LAKE - Adam Jones poured in 21 points to lead five players in double figures as sixth-ranked Buena Vista routed Upper Iowa 99-67 in Iowa Conference action.
The Beavers shot 65 percent in the first half to take a 50-32 lead at the break. Buena Vista shot 58 percent in the second half to outscore the Peacocks 49-35 in the final 20 minutes.
Buena Vista, now 5-0 overall, was 35 of 57 shooting for 61 percent. Upper Iowa was 27 of 63 from the field for 43 percent.
Scott Swalley scored 14 points, Nick Winters 12, and Chris Petersen and Scott Weber 10 apiece. Petersen grabbed nine rebounds and Swalley five. Brett Smith handed out six assists, while Winters and Jeremy Holmes each had four.
Buena Vista made 21 of 30 free throws compared to 6 of 9 for Upper Iowa.
Buena Vista coach Brian Van Haaften was a bit caught off-guard by the final margin.
"I expected it to be a little better game," he said. "I thought offensively we really did a nice job of making some extra passes in the game. I thought overall we played our best game of the year defensively. I was worried about this game coming in. I thought we might lose a little bit of focus, but they proved me wrong."
