Storm Lake won six matches by pin in the match against LM-ACT. Dylan Wagener stuck Jake Petersen in 2 minutes, 35 seconds at 125 pounds, while Pete Harder needed 1:20 to pin Jason Langan at 135.
Jared Ponsor pinned Todd Reese in 3:14 at 152 pounds, Tyler Radke stuck Clif Rubicam in 45 seconds at 160, Ben Strandberg pinned John Sobotka in 1:37 at 189 and Alfredo Ramos won by pin in 1:21 over Derek Olsen at 275.
Matt Gervais won by decision 9-4 at 140, while Nic Wiley and Matt Nitchals won by forfeit at 112 and 215, respectively.
"I felt we wrestled well for the first match of the year," Storm Lake coach Ty Seaman said. "We did a good job of staying in position and hustling in the first meet."
Pocahontas scored the first 29 points of the dual before Storm Lake got on the board with a win at 140 pounds. Gervais won by pin in 3:09.
The Indians then won the next two matches to go ahead 41-6 before Radke won a 5-4 decision at 160. Storm Lake's other win came from Strandberg, who won by major decision 15-6 at 189.
"We just got outwrestled in the second dual meet," Seaman said. "Poky has a very nice team and they were more aggressive and took advantage of mistakes we made. That was really the difference. They were more physical and aggressive than we were."
Storm Lake, now 1-1 overall, wrestles today at Missouri Valley.
