The state Division of Tourism has unveiled a new holiday link to its Web site - http://www.traveliowa.com. By clicking on the poinsettia box marked "Holiday Events," you can learn about a new gathering each week.
"A lot of people think that tourism only takes place in the summertime," said Shawna Lode, a division of tourism spokeswoman.
"But even now when it's cold, our Web site is a great resource for people who have family members coming in and are looking for something to do with them during the holidays."
The Web site will showcase a range of events across Iowa, including "A Christmas Stroll" in Stanhope, "Christmas by the Lake" in Clear Lake, the Santa Lucia Festival in Stanton, "Luminaria Lighting" in Burlington and the "City of Christmas" in Keokuk.
The idea grew out of the buzz generated last fall by a foliage web link compiled by the Department of Natural Resources. Browsers could find a weekly foliage forecast, telling them where to drive to see aspen and maple trees in their autumnal glory.
